And it has been awesome.

A couple months ago I asked some of you Oppo people on advice for buying an older house. Problems included having to replace the cast iron sewage pipes soon, old un-grounded wiring, and come to find out a slight foundation problem as well. We ended up saying screw it, got the price knocked down to 20k below asking, and bought it. We have actually been living there for about 2 weeks now, just haven't had time to share. It has a kick ass pool, a detached garage that is huge, and sits on a 1/4 acre of land, which inside Beltway 8 in Houston is unheard of. The place has plenty of room to expand, including more than enough room for me to turn the garage into a 4 car. It also has a massive driveway that provides even more space for cars and trailers! So here are some pictures (the one at the top is obviously my two cars safe and sound in their new home).

Here is a view of when you come in the front door. This is the living room/dining room/kitchen which is off to the left.

Here is a shot of the pool with the master bedroom through those glass doors. You can kind of make out a barb wire fence back there. We own all the land back to there. There is a gully between us and the apartments, which used to be blocked by trees until they widened the gully. The previous owner planted some quick growing trees back there so we should be good in a year or so.

A shot from one corner of the pool looking towards the garage and driveway.

Another picture of the garage.

EDIT: Forgot to say thank you to all the people that gave me advice in the original post.

So you can park your car in the garage and then just hop right into the pool? that is pretty sweet. Congrats on the house. Hopefully all those issues are fixed up and won't cause any headaches for you. And you most definitely need to turn that into a 4 car garage with a lift. . . .

Wow. Nice. Where I live that house would cost $700k +.

Yea you have no idea how bad I wanted to jump in today after swapping the Mustang back to its street pads. If only it was about 15 degrees warmer. And also, one of the cool things about having an old house is it has given me another hobby that involves tools!

Where is that at? The good thing about this area is that land prices are only going to go up, so even though we plan on staying here for a long time, if we do decide to sell we should make some money (maybe).

O and lift is 100% in the plans for the future.

Thanks! Now it has room to grow too!! But with all the money that I want to spend on the house, that might wait a while. Also the laundry list of parts I want for the Mustang lol.

Southern California. Anywhere in SoCal that you would want to live costs big bucks. A nice place with a detached 2 car, a pool on a decent plot of land? $$$$$

Makes sense. God bless Texas. Still though the market in Houston right now is pretty crazy. So many young professionals are moving here so some places don't stay on the market for 24 hours.

That is awesome, congratulations! You've got a cool garage there, with a house thingy right nearby! :-)

Anywhere within 35 miles of DC and that house would be around 1 million

Nice place you got there! Glad you were able to bring the price down; a lot of that newfound equity will go to good use getting the pipes did

Also totes jelly.

I too love lawn flamingos. Fun fact I found out though; lawn flamingo's are apparently a symbol for swingers. I had no clue until after mine got destroyed in a hurricane and someone disclosed this to me.

I'm torn because I love the stupid cheesy little things, but I also don't want to say "hey, my wife is fair game".

I'm on Martha's Vineyard. Anything like this house here is going to be at least $1 million. Even the shitty houses start out at at least $4-500k

I really don't want a yard or need more space, but I want a garage SO much.

...

I really just need garage space, lulz.

Well my wife is a huge animal lover so we just fell in love with the amount of space the place had (god I sound old). That plus so much room for expansion (especially for the garage) = win. Plus it came with a riding lawn mower! My brother in law who is 14 is already pumped to come mow the yard lol.

Can you tell? Haha my family always ways. My wife just loved F-150's. Although I am definitely not opposed to acquiring other brands. Future cars (hopefully) include a CTS-V and some kind of Porsche. But that is only after I buy my Terminator :)
